John Maples MP praises County's Reading Mission

John Maples MP for Stratford-on-Avon has visited Bidford Library to lend his support to the Summer Reading Challenge.

Mr Maples called in on the library to see how it is shaping up for the summer holidays in which the library is hosting events as part of the nationwide Summer Reading ChallengeTM.

The challenge, which has a secret agent theme and is backed by Alex Rider, the junior MI6 hero of Anthony Horowitz’s summer blockbuster ‘Stormbreaker’, sees children across the county set the task of reading six books over the holidays.

Participants will receive a special agent attaché case with Mission Accomplished medals to reward all those who successfully complete the challenge.

John Maples said:  “I am delighted that libraries around the county are encouraging young people to get involved with the Summer Reading Challenge and read books.  Bidford Library, like the others in Stratford, has a range of events that will appeal to younger minds including music events and spy challenges.

“It is important that we encourage children and young people to enjoy and appreciate books and I congratulate Bidford on its innovative approach to attracting young people.  I am sure that this will create a lifelong love of books and learning for many of the young people who take up the reading challenge which will stand them in good stead for many years to come.”

All of Warwickshire’s libraries are taking part in the Summer Reading ChallengeTM which is now in its eighth year.
