Hillmorton roadshow a big hit
A roadshow explaining services available to people living in Hillmorton and Eastlands in Rugby has been hailed a big success.
The event was held on Saturday 15 July at St Georges Hall, and was arranged by county councillors Jerry Roodhouse and Richard Dodd.
Residents of the area were able to drop in and find out more about the services run by Warwickshire County Council, the police, health services, and Rugby Borough Council as well as community groups.
Cllr Roodhouse said: “I am a firm believer that people often find it much easier to discuss things face to face and on a more informal basis. This event gave local people just that opportunity. The turnout we had was incredible, I was really pleased with the whole morning.”
Cllr Dodd added: “This was the first event of this kind that we have run on a Saturday morning and it has proved popular as a way for people to engage with both us as their local Councillors and the service providers. We hope to hold another event like this next summer with further ‘forum’ meetings in the interim to discuss specific topics close to the heart of the community.”
The local public perspective matters more than any other to most organisations and the event on Saturday gave the public their opportunity to be heard.
Visitors to the event found out about such things as home composting, this year’s hottest recycling trend, learning how to achieve top of the range fertiliser from nothing more than their home and garden waste.
The local PCSOs, whose role it is to act as the link between the community and the police, used the opportunity to really understand the issues and concerns of local people. They were able to provide feedback, guidance and advice on a wide range of topics from home security to nuisance behaviour.
The County Highways department was able to discuss local traffic and highways matters with visitors. As a result several suggestions and queries received at the event are now being investigated to see if they would be viable.
Kish Vadukul from Warwickshire County Council Highways said: “If I can take away at least one suggestion and be able to act on it, it makes the event worthwhile. That person will feel satisfied that we were able to help.”
