A chance to influence planning policy

Open events are being held across Warwickshire to encourage the county’s residents to have their say on shaping a key part of future planning policy.

Warwickshire County Council’s Minerals Local Development Framework (LDF) has entered a new phase of consultation. The Core Strategy: Issues and Options will become part of local planning policy under new legislation and the county council is inviting people to become involved in the early stages of the process to create this new policy.

This is the second stage of consultation after a preliminary consultation was carried out during February and March of this year. The Minerals LDF will guide the future of sustainable mineral extraction the county until the year 2021.

There is a period of six weeks statutory consultation where the general public and organisations can respond and comment on the various development options and this got underway on Friday and continues until 8th September 2006.

Cllr Chris Saint, the county’s Cabinet member with responsibility for planning policy, said: “We want people to give their views. The Issues and Options stage sets out a number of main issues in regard to planning applications for minerals extraction in Warwickshire and a number of options relating to each issue have been put forward.

“Issues include how future sand and gravel extraction, materials for the manufacture of cement and mining operations should be planned for in the county over the next 15 years.  Additionally how should the county council address the issue of sustainable transport for future mineral developments?”

There are a number of ways the general public can become involved. WCC has produced a questionnaire, which is available from local District Council offices and libraries during normal working hours or online at
http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/mineralscorestrategy.

Copies of the questionnaire can also be obtained from the Council by ringing 01926 412907 and 01926 412391.

A public consultation event (a Minerals Workshop) is being held at Manor Hall Leamington Spa on the 2nd September 2006 between 10.00am and 1.00pm. This will give people the opportunity to ask the County Council’s officers any questions in regard to the Minerals Issues and Options comment on the document.
