DJ warns drugs and driving are a `bad mix’
As more than 45,000 music revellers prepare to descend on Long Marston Airfield for the Global Gathering festival this weekend, headlining DJ Carl Cox is urging crowds to have fun but be sure to avoid a ‘bad mix’ involving drugs and driving.
“I love my job as a DJ, playing to loads of people and making them rock! I also know more than most that you have to look after yourself to be able to keep going and this means getting safely to and from venues. Don’t put yourself or your mates in trouble by doing drugs and driving - it’s just as bad as drinking!”
While hoping festival-goers enjoy themselves at the country’s biggest dance party, Stan Milewski, Senior Road Safety Officer, Warwickshire County Council is cautioning visitors to Warwickshire to stay safe on the roads and keep in mind the risks and penalties of drug driving.
“Drug driving is just as dangerous as drink driving and similarly the penalties are not worth the risk - a guaranteed loss of your license for a year, not to mention the damage you could do yourself or your friends. Local Police can now carry out special roadside tests for drug driving and will be ensuring this year’s festival goers are all being safe on the roads.”
Some Drug Driving Effects
· Poor concentration, co-ordination and slower reaction times
· Drowsiness and increased danger of falling asleep at the wheel on the way home after the Festival
· Erratic behaviour and over-confidence so you take unnecessary risks
· Blurred vision, panic attacks and paranoia
· Confused thinking and distorted perception
