Leamington works enter final stage

Improvements to Leamington town centre are now entering the final stages as works progress towards completion of the project by next month.

Victoria Terrace and Bath Street are currently the focus of the works as part of the ongoing improvements to Leamington town centre. This phase of the works began on the 12th June 2006 following the completion of similar works carried out on the Parade last year.

During the current works, Bath Street is closed to all through-traffic and Victoria Terrace is closed to traffic travelling south from the Parade. These closures are in place to ensure a safe environment for pedestrians and the workforce while helping to ensure that the works are completed as quickly as possible. The works are progressing on schedule and all traffic will be returning to normal in early September 2006.

The works are now entering the final stage, which consists of removal and replacement of worn-out surfacing of the roads on Victoria Terrace, Bath Street and the lower part of the Parade outside the Pump Rooms.

The resurfacing works are due to begin on 14th August and will last for approximately two weeks. During this time the existing road closures will remain in place. However, in addition, on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th August, Victoria Terrace will be closed to all traffic in the evening between 6:00pm and 10:30pm.

During these additional closures, all affected traffic will be diverted and the temporary bus stops currently on Spencer Street will be closed, and passengers will be diverted to existing bus stops on the Parade.

Pedestrian access to affected streets and properties is being maintained throughout the course of these works and all shops and other businesses are open as usual.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio holder for the Environment, said: “I’d like to thank the public for their patience while these works are being carried out. If anyone would like further information then please visit the scheme website at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/parade.”
