Speed cameras to enforce temporary speed limits at A429 Barford Road Works

Warwickshire Casualty Reduction Partnership and site contractor GallifordTry are asking motorists to observe the temporary speed limit introduced as part of the A429 Barford Bypass road works.

A temporary 30mph speed limit has been imposed through the extent of the road works for the safety of construction workers and the travelling public.

The road works will be carried out adjacent to the highway and construction machinery will be operating in close proximity to the road. The temporary speed limit has extended the existing Barford speed limit at both ends of the village.

At the request of the site contractor, GallifordTry, the Partnership is installing a fixed speed camera to encourage motorists to obey the temporary speed limit and reduce the risk of crashes.

The camera will be positioned at the southern end of the road works. A speed survey has shown that 85% of traffic is exceeding the temporary speed limit. The Partnership and GallifordTry will continue to monitor the speed of traffic through the road works and if necessary further enforcement may be carried out.

Estyn Williams, Warwickshire County Council Road Safety Manager and Chairman of Warwickshire Casualty Reduction Partnership said:
“The reduced speed limit has been introduced to protect the lives of construction workers and also motorists who will face greater distractions and hazards as they drive through the road works. I ask all motorists to drive with care and consideration through the road works at Barford and to make sure they keep within the signed speed limits and pay attention to road signs and works traffic. Our message is very clear, respect the limit and abide by it or run the real risk of getting a speeding ticket.”
