Congratulations to residents as recycling levels are doubled
The amount of household waste being recycled in Warwickshire has doubled in the last four years, winning praise for the county’s residents.
This summer Warwickshire County Council has launched a campaign to thank people for the efforts they have gone to in pushing recycling figures to almost a third of all waste collected.
In 2002/2003 Warwickshire’s residents were recycling 15 per cent of household waste (40,316 tonnes), in 2005/2006 the figure is 30 per cent and the tonnage has increased to 86,342.
Across Warwickshire the county’s residents should now start to see the message `You’re a Star’ praising them for their efforts in hitting the 30 per cent figure.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “The people of Warwickshire deserve praise for their efforts. Thanks to the county council working in partnership with the five districts we are seeing recycling increase year on year.
“Through this campaign we are aiming to demonstrate that great things have been achieved, and that people do not have to do an awful lot more to change their daily lifestyles and send the figures higher still.”
Warwickshire County Council and the five district councils are working together as the Warwickshire Waste Partnership to improve waste management in Warwickshire and to ensure waste is managed sustainably.
