Family Fun in Whittleford Park

The Friends of Whittleford Park, with help from Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council and Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods, are gearing up for a Family Fun Day this Saturday.

The event will take place at the Clay Pool in Whittleford Park from 12 – 4 pm and is being run to coincide with the official opening of new sculpture gates for the park, which will take place at the Hamilton Court entrance to the Park at 12.30pm.

Planned activities include pond dipping, bug hunts, guided walks, face painting, environmental games, craft activities and displays.  If the weather is fine, families are encouraged to bring along a picnic and join in the fun.
Yvonne Everitt, a member of the Friends of Whittleford Park, enthused: “Everyone is invited to this free community event and we’re looking forward to lots of people coming along to enjoy this beautiful wildlife site.  Whittleford Park really is the countryside on our doorstep.  A local resident who used to live in Guernsey recently described the park as ‘a precious piece of land’ of which there is little left in Stockingford and Camp Hill.  People of all ages have grown to love this area over the years and I have no doubt that many will grow passionate about it in the future.”

Warwickshire County Councillor and portfolio holder for the Environment, Martin Heatley, said: “Warwickshire County Council has invested heavily in the area of Whittleford Park and the neighbouring estates.  Much good work has been done to improve the standards and lifestyles of these growing communities and I am pleased to be associated with the tremendous efforts of the Advisory Management Team, the Friends of Whittleford Park and the various residents groups who have teamed up to attract funding for the projects.  We can now begin to see the investment paying off - the funding secured for Whittleford Park will enhance the historical, economic and family-based values of the area.”

Cllr Tony Lloyd, Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture & Recreation, added: “I’m absolutely delighted to see all the wonderful progress that is being made with Whittleford Park.  Everyone has been working hard to improve the Park for all local residents and should be congratulated on the achievements so far. It will be great to see everyone having an enjoyable time at Saturday’s fun day and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and join in.”
