Chedham’s Yard needs your votes

You can vote to restore a perfect glimpse of the live and working conditions of a Warwickshire wheelwright and blacksmith - but hurry!

Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne is competing for the opportunity to be restored as part of the BBC series Restoration Village. The programme follows presenter Griff Rhys Jones as he offers 21 historic properties a lifeline.

William ‘Bill’ Chedman left behind a perfectly preserved portrait of the life and working conditions of a 19th century Wheelwright and blacksmith; his workshop, benches and equipment remain intact as though they have been frozen in time.

Due to problems with the foundations, the buildings are considered too unstable for public access. It is hoped that Chedman’s Yard, upon restoration, could be developed as a working museum with a working blacksmith employed to work from the site, to provide training and act as an educational resource for local schools.

Primarily, however, Chedman’s Yard must beat its two competitors – a church in Lincolnshire and a school in Norfolk.

You can vote for your favourite building by calling 09013 600 500 before the evening of Tuesday 14 August. The programme is repeated tonight on BBC2 at 7.30pm. Calls cost a pound and all monies raised contribute to the restoration of the chosen building.
