Warwickshire Business Receives Scam Letter
Warwickshire businesses have begun to receive a scam letter that is sweeping across the region, Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service are warning.
The letter purports to come from the Office of Government Commerce’s Procurement Department based at Rosebery Court, St Andrews Business Park in Norwich.
The Government Department and the address are both genuine, but the letter is fraudulent. The letter asks that current or potential suppliers return an "authorisation to release financial information" form by fax to a telephone number with an 020 London prefix. The form asks businesses to supply their bank account details and asks requests signatures.
A Stratford upon Avon business recently received the letter and alerted the service, but officers think that many other businesses will also have received the letter.
These letters are not being sent by the OGC and businesses are advised not to comply with such requests, or risk potentially having their bank account details stolen and used fraudulently. The OGC will never request information of this type in this way.
Should businesses have any concerns over the legitimacy of a request they should contact the OGC Service Desk on 0845 000 4999.
