Geology rocks for Warwickshire's youngsters
Young, budding geologists can step back 170 million years this month by joining a fossil hunting trip at Cross Hands Quarry.
The trip has been organised by Warwickshire County Council for Wednesday 30 August. Children are invited to join in this thrilling day, where they will be let lose on one of our county’s most valuable geological sites to search for clues to Warwickshire’s Jurassic past.
Cross Hands Quarry is situated in the south of Warwickshire, near Long Compton. The limestone beds formerly quarried here represent 170 million year old sea floor sand and mud layers.
Fossil finds are guaranteed and the trip only costs £12 per child, which includes coach travel. This expedition is for the over 8’s only. Adults are welcome to accompany their child if they wish.
Meet and collect from The Activity Centre, St John’s House Museum, Warwick. The trip spans from 10am – 4pm and children will enjoy the company of Dr Jon Radley, Keeper of Geology.
