Warwickshire in the frame
Warwickshire has been brought sharply into focus over the past year as photographers from across the county took up a county council challenge.
A photographic competition organised by Warwickshire County Council through http://www.enjoywarwickshire.com has for the past year been calling for images that bring the county to life.
And after much deliberation the winning image has been chosen, and the prize goes to James Lawrie from Nuneaton for his photo of Kenilworth Castle.
A team of professional photographers worked with enjoywarwickshire.com and came up with five finalists, but it was James’ effort which finally took the prize of a free family ticket to an attraction of his choice, a certificate, framed print of his photograph, and of course the prestige of becoming the enjoywarwickshire.com photographer of the year.
James chose to visit Warwick Castle with his family and gets a free ticket courtesy of the castle.
The judges decided James’ photo was well thought out, well framed, with good use of the waymarkers in the foreground and the famous landmark of Kenilworth Castle in the distance. The photo with its view across Great Mere demonstrates the delights of Warwickshire’s countryside footpaths and the great views awaiting.
Second place went to Peter Sanders from Warwick with a dramatic image of a kite surfer; third place went to Paul Dibbens for his image of early morning cows in the road at Weston Park near Long Compton; fourth place went to Tony Garner for his canalside view; while fifith place went to Keith Hayler for his unusual perspective on the boats on the River Avon in Warwick.
Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “The response to this competition produced some quality work, demonstrating the vast array of views and scenes to be enjoyed around Warwickshire.
“And although the competition has now come to a close, I hope lots of people will continue to hunt out those unusual and artistic shots and send them in to us.”
Despite the 2006 competition having come to a close, photographers are welcome to submit images for inclusion on the photo gallery by emailing them to tourism@warwickshire.gov.uk or to jamesatkinson@warwickshire.gov.uk
