Leamington works to finish a week early

Improvements to Leamington town centre are to be completed towards the end of next week, one week ahead of schedule.

The finishing touches to the improvements, which got underway on June 12, are being carried out next week, such as white line painting, and all works should be completed by the end of next week – one week ahead of the scheduled completion date of September 8.

The works in Leamington mark the second phase of improvements, which got underway last year on the Parade, and this year included works in the Victoria Terrace and Bath Street areas of the town.

The work included widening and resurfacing footpaths and raising platforms at pedestrian crossing points, upgrading traffic signals and resurfacing of the road. It also included reducing street clutter and replacing existing street furniture as well as installing new street lighting.

The improvement of the footpath adjacent to the All Saints Church has been excluded from these works at the present time, and will be carried out at the same time as the improvement of the Church forecourt area, which is scheduled to be carried out in 2007.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio holder for the Environment, said: “I’d like to thank the public for their patience while these works have been carried out. Hopefully by the end of next week we will all be able to see a finished product we can all be proud of.”
