Warwickshire Car Clear has had a real impact!
Warwickshire Car Clear has had a real impact on Warwickshire with a reduction of around 20% in the number of deliberate vehicle fires since the project was launched on the 14 June 2004.
In 2004/05 there were 1419 calls made to the Car Clear hotline. 840 of these calls related to abandoned vehicles. In 2005/06 we received 1107 calls to the Hotline Service. 737 of these calls related to abandoned vehicles and 377 vehicles were recovered and removed for crushing.
Fire Investigation Officer, Steve West said:“We are really pleased to see a reduction in the amount of deliberate vehicle fires. Overall the scheme is working very effectively and this could not have been achieved without support from Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire County Council and the five Warwickshire District and Borough Councils. I would also like to thank residents from across Warwickshire for continuing to call the hotline to report any suspected abandoned vehicles.
“The scheme is currently being advertised on the side of buses so look out for the hotline number!”
