Chesterton Windmill closed

The Chesterton Windmill was not open to the public yesterday.

One of the sails was broken and the windmill had to be closed for health and safety reasons.

This spectacular 17th century windmill has been opened to the public for two days annually for almost the last 30 years with the support of the local volunteer residents.

Helen Maclagan, Head of Museum Services, said:“We are sure many people will be disappointed, and we are very sorry for any inconvenience, but we do have to close the windmill for health and safety reasons.

“As the weather forecast is good we would recommend that people look at visiting
the nearby Parish Church at Chesterton that will be open or visit our web site
and look at our other events on http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk

“I would just like to thank the Chesterton local volunteer residents, who we work in partnership with to open the mill, for their unfailing support and the time they gave freely.”

Cllr David Booth, a local county councillor, said:

“It is very sad that this beautiful windmill has had to be closed today.  When I arrived staff were working hard to make sure the site was secure and safe.  I hope that we can to re-open this important windmill in future years.”
