What’s your view on new school cycle link?
Warwickshire County Council is seeking local residents’ views about proposals for a cycle route to link Brownsover to Avon Valley School in Rugby.
The route has been planned in partnership with Rugby Borough Council and will be built as part of the county council’s Safer Routes to Schools initiative. This aims to encourage school pupils to walk or cycle to school, rather than travel by car, thereby reducing traffic congestion, pollution and road safety hazards around the school gate.
The cycle route will run either in the verge adjacent to A426 Leicester Road or along quiet residential roads and will include
· a new pedestrian / cycle crossing on Boughton Road
· improvements to three existing pedestrian crossings
· an on-road cycle route through Brownsover
· a new pedestrian and cycle link across the open space at Park End
An exhibition will be held at the following locations :
· The Avon Valley School, Newbold Road, Thursday 28 September 4pm to 7pm
· Christ Church Hall, Bow Fell, Brownsover, Friday 29 September 4pm to 7pm
Plans of the route will be available to view and County Council and Borough Council officers will be in attendance to answer questions about the scheme.
Cllr Martin Heatley Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Hopefully as many people as possible will take part in this consultation. It’s extremely important that we start thinking about, and taking action, to ensure people adopt more sustainable ways of travelling too and from school.
“Over the past ten years the number of children walking to school has halved, while the number being driven to school has doubled.”
