Parking permit forms must be returned
Residents living in areas of Rugby to be affected by the new parking regulations being introduced on October 2 should make sure they get their parking permit forms returned.
The householders should now have received their parking permit forms, and need to make sure they get them returned in time to get their permits before the decriminalisation of parking comes into force on October 2.
The decriminalisation of parking in Rugby means the enforcement of parking restrictions moves from the police and into local authority control.
This will see Warwickshire County Council implement a scheme, which will then be controlled and administered by Rugby Borough Council.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Environmental Services, said: “It’s extremely important that everyone is aware of the changes coming in and how they will affect them. I urge as many people as possible to keep an eye out for information delivered to their homes, or visit the borough or county council websites.
“By introducing decriminalised parking we can reduce the amount of traffic circulating in the town centre and on residential streets. This has environmental benefits by reducing exhaust fume levels in our town centres, while also improving opportunities for residents to park outside their homes.
“Other towns such as Northampton and Winchester have introduced similar schemes and have seen an increase in the vitality of their town centres. We want to ensure the economic vitality and sustainability of Warwickshire towns and this is an important step in that direction.”
Cllr Neil Campbell, Rugby Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Borough and Economic Development, said: “In areas around the town centre and near the railway station it is only fair that residents are given the opportunity to park near their homes.
“With the new parking arrangements and the increased number of parking attendants these areas will be rigidly monitored to ensure residents can park safely if they obtain the necessary permits."
