Firefighters highlight fire safety at this year's ‘Crucial Crew’
Children from across Warwickshire have descended on Stoneleigh Park for a crucially important safety event.
Crucial Crew 2006, which runs until Friday 6th October, is well established in the school calendar and each year opens its doors to around 1,500 schoolchildren from Warwickshire primary schools.
Designed to be fun and interactive, the event encourages school children to think about their own safety in a variety of situations, including the dangers of fire.
Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service is just one of the local agencies at Crucial Crew 2006.
Gary Smith, Community Fire Safety Officer, said: “The Crucial Crew event is always a fun one to attend and gives us the opportunity to pass on important fire safety information to young people.
“This year, we have been talking to the kids about subjects including dialling 999, planning a fire escape route, the problem of hoax calls and the importance of smoke alarms.”
Warwickshire Fire & Rescue’s very own ‘crucial crew’ of fire officers have also been giving demonstrations on how to ‘stop, drop and roll’ in the event of a fire. A fun interactive quiz accompanies the talks and demonstrations.
Warwickshire County Council’s Road Safety and Trading Standards departments have also been at the event, along with Coventry & North Warwickshire Ambulance Service and Warwickshire Police.
TNT are sponsoring this year’s event and other contributors include the Royal Life Saving Society, the Action on Accidents Alliance, Transco and EMEB.
Gary Smith concludes: “Warwickshire Fire & Rescue are committed to keeping young people in Warwickshire safe from fire and this is an effective way of teaching them about the many dangers they may face during their day-to-day lives.”
