Payslip pennies will benefit Warwickshire hospices
Two Warwickshire hospice charities will benefit from a new scheme that enables caring Warwickshire County Council staff to donate the ‘spare’ pennies from their pay packets every month to support their work.
The ‘Pennies from Heaven’ scheme, launched by the county council this month, invites employees to round down their monthly pay to the nearest pound and donate the pennies left over to the council’s two nominated charities: the Mary Ann Evans Hospice and The Myton Hospices.
The Warwickshire hospices provide specialised care for people with life limiting illnesses and both charities will receive an equal share of the amount donated. The charities will also be able to gift aid the donations, adding another 28 pence to every pound staff contribute.
All of Warwickshire County Council’s 18,000 staff are being encouraged to pledge their pennies and sign up to the scheme, which could raise tens of thousands of pounds for the charities.
Jim Graham, Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Council, said: “These two local hospices have been chosen by a staff and trade unions group as the initial charities to benefit from us running a Pennies from Heaven scheme.
“I am delighted that this group has taken the time to consider which charities we will support and naturally hope that as many staff as possible sign up.”
