Narrow boat owners get on board!

Firefighters from Nuneaton and Bedworth are heading to the waters this week as part of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services Boat Fire Safety Check Scheme.

Boats mooring in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area will be given a free Boat Fire Safety Check, which incorporates fitting free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Firefighters will also provide general fire safety advice on the safe storage of fuel and electric heaters.

Crew Manager, Scott Barter said:
“We have received a number of requests to carry out boat fire safety checks in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area and we are really pleased with this response. It’s very hard to reach boaters unless they have a permanent mooring, which is why the boat fire safety campaign was launched.

“Boat fires are particularly difficult for firefighters and pose a great many more problems that a domestic fire.  Ensuring that boat owners are fully clued up to the dangers of fire, as well as to the best ways of avoiding it.”
