Council’s pink and denim day raises £380 for charity

Warwick’s Shire Hall was awash with pink and denim last Friday as kind-hearted staff dressed down – and raised £380 for charity!

Employees from Warwickshire County Council’s Performance & Development Directorate were asked to contribute to two major charities, Jeans for Genes and Breast Cancer Care, by wearing denim jeans or something pink for the day and donating money to the causes.

Friday 6 October was national Jeans for Genes day. Organised by four national charities, the event raises funds for research into serious and often life-threatening genetic disorders affecting thousands of children.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month. ‘Wear it pink’ is Breast Cancer Campaign’s biggest fundraising event and has raised over £3.6 million since its launch in 2003.

Sarah Boyce, Workstep Support Worker for Warwickshire County Council, said: “These are both very worthwhile charities, which are raising awareness of their work during October. By dressing down for the day and leaving our office clothes behind in favour of jeans or something pink, our Performance & Development staff raised £380 for the causes.”

Employees also held a charity cake stall at Shire Hall on Monday 9 October to raise even more money for the charities.
