Whistle blown on parking problem

Residents of Ash Green in Warwickshire are getting their very own free parking permit scheme in a bid to cope with the regular influx of cars spilling out from the Ricoh Arena site in Coventry.

Football games and concerts held at the Arena have attracted thousands of motorists, and many have discovered the Ash Green area, sparking an outcry from local residents.

In consultation with local residents Warwickshire County Council is this month introducing a free residents parking scheme covering the vast majority of Ash Green.

The scheme is being introduced on October 30, ahead of the Coventry City home derby against Birmingham City on October 31 at the Arena.

Every resident should have received their application form for a parking permit and book of visitor permits and they are urged to return it as soon as possible.

Cllr Frank McCarney, Warwickshire County Council’s local member in Ash Green, said: “I’m delighted this scheme is being introduced, I’ve had many residents talking to me about the parking problems they face on match days – hopefully this will make their lives easier.

“It’s important that everyone returns their application forms, or informs us if they’ve not received one. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have special permit requirements, for example if they have a carer.”

When events are being held Warwickshire Police will enforce the permit parking, with motorists not displaying permits facing a £60 fine.
