Plans submitted for major revamp of Whitnash Library
Plans have been submitted for an innovative new information and resource centre that will completely revolutionise the way people in Whitnash access local information and services.
‘Warwickshire Direct – Whitnash’ will be launched in spring next year following a revamp of Whitnash Library, which will be refurbished and extended to also include the Police, Town Council and improved access to services from Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council.
The planning application detailing the proposed conversion and extension is now on display at Whitnash Library and Whitnash Town Council with information on how residents can make their views known about the plans.
Once building work is complete, local people will be able to visit the centre not only to borrow library books but also to access a whole host of services – from applying for a bus pass to meeting their Community Beat Officer!
‘Warwickshire Direct – Whitnash’ is phase two of an exciting pilot project involving Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council, which this time also includes Whitnash Town Council and Warwickshire Police.
It follows the success of ‘Warwickshire Direct – Kenilworth’, a similar centre that has benefited thousands of residents in Kenilworth since it opened in October 2005. Paragon Interiors PLC, who designed and refurbished the new look facility in Kenilworth, are again involved in the Whitnash project.
Councillor Peter Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Performance & Development, Warwickshire County Council, said: “Our partnership with Warwick District Council to provide a single point of contact for council services in Kenilworth has been a huge success. We hope that residents in Whitnash will also reap the benefits of having such a centre on their doorstep soon.”
Following a vote in favour of the scheme by Whitnash Town Council, Whitnash Councillor Bernard Kirton said: “For the first time residents will be able to ask questions on district and council matters at one point, without having to make loads of calls.”
Councillor Misan McFarland, Portfolio Holder for Customer Services, Warwick District Council, said: “We hope local people will see the advantages of increased access to information and services that will undoubtedly arise from this project to enhance Whitnash Library.”
