How bright are you?
Cyclists are being targeted in a road safety campaign to find out how `bright’ they are, and pick up some competition prizes at the same time.
With shorter days now with us, Road Safety Officers from Warwickshire County Council are reminding all road users, to `lighten up’ when out and about on or near roads.
Secondary school cyclists in particular, are being targeted with a competition to find out how bright they are.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Environment Cabinet Portfolio holder, said: “Many cyclists are virtually invisible to other road users but are not aware of it, especially if they are wearing dark clothing. By the time headlights pick out a dark shape on a bike without lights or reflectors, it may be too late for the driver to stop.”
Pupils aged 11 to 16 can win prizes of cycle lights and reflective garments by answering a simple question on the law relating to bicycle lighting by logging on to http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/roadsafety. Prizes have been donated by local bike shops throughout Warwickshire who are supporting the campaign.
The competition runs until 30th November. For further details, contact Mary Holliday on 01926 412776.
