Young politicians return from Strasbourg
Fourteen aspiring politicians from Warwickshire have just returned from the European hub of politics, Strasbourg.
The members of the County Youth Panel visited the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week (Wednesday 8 – Saturday 11 November) as part of a trip, which was organised by Warwickshire County Council.
Warwickshire’s young representatives joined 500 other young people from around the EU. They debated a wide range of topics ranging from the European constitution and democracy to the environment, transport and energy. One of the members of the group, Georgina Palmer from Rugby, gave her speech in French.
Rob Townsend, Warwickshire’s County Youth Officer, said: “The young people from Warwickshire exchanged many ideas with their European counterparts and we are particularly proud of their contribution to the programme of events. It is no mean feat to chair and present speeches in the European Union’s Parliament Chamber but our county youth panel members did a brilliant job.“
Warwickshire’s County Youth Panel gives young people a chance to voice their views on a number of issues that affect them and works closely with the county council as well as providers of services to young people.
