The proposals come as a result of the planned closure of Sparrowdale School on Spon Lane in the spring of next year.

The plans include a development of approximately 50 new homes for the area as well as a much-improved household waste recycling facility for the residents of North Warwickshire.

As well as an improved access and a more user-friendly layout the recycling centre will include a recycling shop which will be run by a local charity or charitable organisation.

The first Warwickshire recycling shop opened at the Burton Farm Recycling Centre near Stratford in 2004. It is run by the local Shakespeare Hospice, and in its first three years has raised more than £500,000 from selling items that were destined for disposal.

Based on this success a second shop opened at the Princes Drive Recycling Centre in Leamington Spa and the Grendon shop is set to be the third.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We recognise that there are currently problems with access to the current recycling centre in Grendon. Our proposals are to move the access further from the A5 roundabout, while also expanding the site to allow for more recycling containers.

“The introduction of a recycling shop offers an exciting opportunity for a local charity to benefit as we are seeing elsewhere in the County.

“In order to ensure that we are addressing people’s needs we are holding a consultation event later this month at Sparrowdale School.”

To view the proposals for the site, including both the proposed residential development and improved waste facility, events are being held at the Sparrowdale School in Spon Lane Grendon on Friday 24th November, from 4pm until 7.30pm and on Saturday 25th November, from 10.30am until 3pm.
