Children’s centre opens in Whitnash

Parents of children aged five and under in Whitnash can take a peek at new services designed just for them.

A new children’s centre is opening in Nursery Lane on the St Margaret’s Road estate on Monday 20 November.

The occasion is being marked by an invitation to people living in the community to see the new building and find out more about the services that it will offer. The open session runs from 12pm to 2pm.

The centre at is one of four being developed in the Leamington area, with others in Kingsway, Lillington and Sydenham also reaching completion.

Children’s centres are an initiative designed to ensure that support and activities are available for parents and young children on their doorstep. The Whitnash centre is one of the first in Warwickshire to be completed. It has been commissioned by Warwickshire County Council and will be run by children’s charity NCH.

The new Children’s Centre will provide a base for a drop-in centre for parents in the area.

Open to all, and free, there will be a number of informal activities for parents and toddlers.  Health visitors will use the centre to make it easier for parents living in the area to meet them. There will be money advice on offer and adult education courses.

The centre, which is being funded by Warwickshire County Council works together with other childcare providers in the area.

Project Manager Olwyn Ditchburn said:

‘’This centre in the St Margarets Road area, will give parents the chance to get some top quality support and fun activities for their children on their doorstep.
This will be a great new facility for parents and children.  The open day promises to be good fun and we hope that people in the area will come along and see the new centre and most importantly let us know what they would like to see happening there’’

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “We are steadily improving the amount of support, advice and fun available to parents and young children, and this centre in Whitnash will be a vital new community facility.”
