Third book for Atherstone care worker

Atherstone care worker, Christine Jenking, is celebrating again with the publication of her third book, Images of England - Atherstone.

Christine, an employee of Warwickshire County Council, working as a Leisure and Activity Co-ordinator at Bracebridge Court publishes under her maiden name of Freeman.
Christine’s new book focuses on images of the town as it was before the 1970s, it’s various trades and industries, the surrounding landscape and the Atherstone Golf Club. Many of the images included were given to her by people who had read and enjoyed the first book.
From royal visits to the Atherstone Carnival, the book celebrates the lives of the people and institutions of Atherstone and will bring back fond memories for many, whilst offering others a precious glimpse into the town’s past.
Christine said: ``My love of writing and researching local history started six years ago with a millennium project tracing the origins of the Bracebridge family of Atherstone Hall. Following this I started a further project called Atherstone Hatting – 100 years of reminiscence, the proceeds of this book went to charity – half to DebRA half and half to Bracebridge Court.
These projects inspired me and after more than three years of research Memories of Atherstone was published by Tempest in April 2005. I then immediately started again and Images of England – Atherstone came out in September of this year.
I am delighted to see my third book published and hope that it will bring as much pleasure to people reading it as I have had in compiling it.”
The 128 pages and 190 photographs cover everything from royal visits to the Atherstone Carnival. The book celebrates the lives of the people and institutions of Atherstone and will bring back fond memories for many, whilst offering others a precious glimpse into the town’s past.
