Teachers gets creative for Christmas

Teachers from across Warwickshire learned how to make Christmas cards and decorations with a difference when they took part in the CREATES Christmas workshop.

Plastic cartons, crisp packet foils and discarded bobbins were just some of the unusual materials which were recycled and transformed into alternative Christmas cards and decorations at a special session run by Warwickshire County Council’s CREATES (Creative Recycling Enviro-Arts Training and Education Service).

Artists Emily Warner and Laura Gilmour were on hand to provide creative inspiration and teach new techniques for children’s lessons.  The CREATES project shows teachers and other people who work with children how to use recycled materials.

CREATES is run by Warwickshire County Council’s Artists in Warwickshire Education team, in a unique partnership with recycling company Trees are Green who advise companies on waste reduction, recycling and disposal operations and has organised a number of its customers to donate waste materials for use in the CREATES arts workshops and projects.

Vikki Holroyd, of Warwickshire County Council’s Artists in Warwickshire Education, said: “We want teachers and children across Warwickshire to discover the endless creative opportunities with recycled materials this Christmas.”
