New lease of life for youth centre

A revamped Bedworth Youth Centre has re-opened this week to give young people in the town somewhere to go, something to do and someone to listen.

The centre in Croxhall Street has been through its first refurbishment in decades and has been formally re-opened.

Warwickshire County Councillor Frank McCarney and Hugh Disley, Head of the council’s newly-formed Division for Young People performed the ceremony.

Young people who use the centre have been involved in planning its rejuvenation. The changes include re-decoration, a new kitchen and coffee bar and new disabled access.

The centre is used by a number of community groups. There are boxing and tae kwon do sessions, a youth group on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and daytime sessions for young people and adults with learning disabilities and those not in full time education.

The Bedworth Heath and Keresley youth project are also run from the building.

Centre manager Ellie Orton said: “This is a fresh start for the centre and we look forward to welcoming more young people from Bedworth through the doors so they can get involved in our activities.”
