Warwickshire County Council’s Christmas card design snapped up in California.

The winning design of a Warwickshire in Winter art competition, run by Warwickshire County Council’s museum service, has been bought by a California collector.

Local artists were invited to produce a design to be used as Warwickshire County Council’s 2006 Christmas Card.  The winning entry by Wilmcote’s Sara Huxley-Edwards was sent to a gallery where it was snapped up by an anonymous bidder for around £800.

Sara was joined at the presentation of her prize by eight year old Felicity Bee, also of winner of the under 18 category.  In a strange quirk of fate, it was not the first time they had met.  Sara said:

“I was in a hairdresser’s recently and got talking to a family with a young girl.  We chatted for about an hour, without mentioning the competition, so the presentation actually turned into a reunion.”

The competition attracted paintings from all over the county with each category enjoying a fair share of entries.

Cllr Alan Farnell, Leader of Warwickshire County Council, said:

“We were delighted by the number of high quality entries from artists both young and old from around the county and thrilled that Sara’s piece of work will promote the county on the other side of the world.”
