Warwickshire race equality projects benefit from £41k council funding

More than twenty projects in Warwickshire are set to benefit from a total of £41,000 of funding from Warwickshire County Council’s Race Equality Budget, following approval by the council’s Cabinet.

The projects include a support group for Asian women with mental health problems in Leamington Spa, cricket training and coaching sessions in Nuneaton, help for people trying to get professional work in Rugby and outreach support for individuals from other EU countries working in Stratford.

In addition to the regional projects awarded, a countywide project called the ‘Carers Multicultural Fun Day’, organised by the Warwickshire Carers Forum, is to receive £1,000 from the Race Equality Budget.

The project will raise awareness within Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities throughout Warwickshire about being a carer and provide information to carers about the various services available to them.

Councillor Alan Farnell, Leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “The Race Equality Budget aims to assist black and minority ethnic communities across Warwickshire by funding simple, one-off projects that give groups the opportunity to develop their communities and recognise their specific needs.

“The competition for funding from the Race Equality Budget is always tough, but we are delighted that Cabinet has approved financial support for these worthwhile projects across Warwickshire.”
