A merry composting Christmas
Householders are being urged to look to compost bins as Christmas presents to both help save the environment, and save cash.
A grant scheme, which enabled compost bins to be offered at incredibly cheap prices, is altering in the new year, meaning that following Christmas the still subsidised price of compost bins offered by Warwickshire County Council will go up.
Currently there are two bins on offer, a 330 litre capacity bin at just £6 and a smaller 220-litre bin at £4.
Both can be delivered free to your door by calling the compost bin order line on 0845 073 2001. Each householder can order up to three bins for delivery to their home address.
Already more than 19,000 bins have been sold in Warwickshire, which is estimated to have diverted over 4,000 tonnes of waste away from landfill.
And now really is the time to take up this remarkable cut-price offer for compost bins, since the price of the bins is set to rise in January.
The price of compost bins supplied by Warwickshire County Council in partnership with WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), is set to rise to £10 for the 330 litre bin and £8 for the 220 litre bin.
The rises are caused by the fact that WRAP is expanding its support for home composting initiatives to many more local authorities next year and so funding has had to spread across far more partners.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Even at the new prices they offer great value for money when compared to the normal prices for compost bins of this type, and the after sales support from both WRAP and Warwickshire County Council is second to none, with both offering the services of dedicated composting experts to guide you through any problems that new composters may have.
“Composting is a fantastic way to help improve your garden and divert waste from landfill, so get one now on your Christmas list.”
