Another boxing day?

Warwickshire County Council’s Domestic Abuse Multi Agency Team (DAMAT) are asking residents in Warwickshire to help break the cycle of domestic violence over the festive season by saying no to violence.

Did you know that domestic violence cases rise by 20% over the Christmas period? Think!
Are you going to be part of that statistic?

Caroline Blackburn, Domestic Violence Manager said:
“The combination of financial pressure, family commitments and alcohol tends to make Christmas one of the most vulnerable times for women and men who are experiencing domestic violence. In over 80% of incidents children are in the same or next room when the violence is going on. This is not the Christmas that we want for our residents and by taking a few simple steps we can help people to get out of abusive relationships or learn how to deal with the pressures so that the violence doesn’t escalate.”

If you are worried that you may be experiencing domestic abuse it may be helpful for you to make some plans for your future.  If you want to find out about the options that are available to you, and your children, the staff at the helpline are available to give you a range of information and support.  If you feel in immediate danger call 999.

In Warwickshire there are a number of community groups and services available to people experiencing domestic violence.  For more information log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/domesticabuse Alternatively for free confidential advice please contact the Helpline on 0845 30 30 900.
