The great Christmas computer give-away
Warwickshire County Council is offering 100 recycled computers to community or voluntary organisations, including Town and Parish Councils.
The computers are free to organisations as long as they can fulfil the eligibility criteria.
Any organisation interested needs to check they come into one of the following categories,
· Locally based community or voluntary organisations,
including Town and Parish Councils
· Small scale groups who have little or no IT equipment
and can show how it will be used to grow their organisation
· Applicants who do not receive core funding from Warwickshire County Council
Councillor Alan Cockburn, Portfolio Holder for Resources, said
“We are delighted to be able to offer these free computers to help local voluntary and community groups. They are only three years old so would make a valuable contribution to the work of any organisation who can fulfil the eligibility criteria.”
Up to two computers can be applied for. The computer packages on offer are a Dell Gx240 desktop computer with a Pentium 4 1.5 GHz processor and 256Mb memory. This consists of a monitor, keyboard and mouse, plus Open Office 2 software.
Modems are available if required. Each computer has a 3-month warranty, although no ongoing support or maintenance will be available.If successful there will be a number of conditions that the organisation will have to sign up to.
The closing date for applications is Monday 12 February 2007. Applications can be downloaded by area as follows
