Have your say about Southam Children’s Centre

Local parents, residents and childcare providers are invited to help shape the services offered by Southam’s new Children’s Centre.

Based at the Graham Adams Community Centre, the Southam Children’s Centre will help families by linking with existing providers, who offer integrated care and education for pre-school children, health services, and family support – all under one roof. Warwickshire County Council is asking the public to step forward and have their say about what other services they would like to see on offer.

The Children’s Centre will offer advice about benefits, tax credits and links to employment opportunities with Jobcentre Plus. In addition, parents will be able to get antenatal and parenting support, and advice about their child’s well being. Yet many more types of services and activities could be delivered through the centre and outreach work around Southam.

Questionnaires have been distributed by the Children’s Centre steering group, and have been on display in the library, leisure and health centres from the end of November - so that the local community can have their say about how services should be delivered.

Wayne Hawkins of the Southam Children’s Centre Steering Group said: “It’s vital that parents of young children in Southam and the surrounding area help us plan for this wonderful facility. It promises to be a real hub of activity for the community, offering convenient access to services.”

The Southam Children’s Centre is expected to be open to the community next year.
Southam Children’s Centre is part of a countywide programme that will allow children’s centres to deliver a wide range of services to communities across Warwickshire. Twenty children’s centres will be provided across the county by March 2008 through the Phase Two Children’s Centre programme.
