Car sharing can make for a merry Christmas
This Christmas and New Year Warwickshire County Council is urging people to discover car sharing as a safe means to enjoy parties without putting a dampener on enjoying the festive spirit.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “By arranging to car share you can enjoy the Christmas party, and then return the favour and drive when your car sharer wants to enjoy the festive spirit.
“We believe that once people get into the habit of car sharing they will realise how beneficial it is, cutting down on congestion, helping the environment, and of course reducing travel to work costs.
“All this week our sustainability team from Warwickshire County Council will be out in the authority’s car parks, chatting to people about the benefits of car sharing and getting them to think about it as a New Year’s resolution.”
Christmas is a busy time of year with everyone jumping in their car and heading into towns to buy their presents, which puts pressure on parking facilities and increases congestion on the roads, why not share the journey with a friend or two, and help ease the Christmas rush.
Sustainable travel officer Karen Martin added: “Everyday there are more than ten million empty seats on our roads in the UK, car sharing is a logical and convenient way of commuting to work, if half of motorists shared just once a week we could reduce pollution by ten per cent and traffic jams by 20 per cent.”
