National recognition for business support

Warwickshire County Council has won a national standard for its efforts in giving small businesses a head start.

The British Retail Consortium has this week awarded Warwickshire County Council the Flexible Landlord Standard.

Dr Kevin Hawkins, Director General of the British Retail Consortium, said: “This standard recognises Warwickshire County Council’s efforts to support business by accepting advance monthly rent payments from its tenants. Flexibility in this area will help the council’s tenants avoid cash flow problems which can occur with quarterly payments.”

Warwickshire County Council is currently landlord to more than 200 businesses across the county.

Cllr Alan Farnell, Leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “I’m delighted to see Warwickshire recognised for our commitment to small businesses.

“This standard highlights one of several programmes to support retailers around the county, including our shop front improvement scheme, Business Improvement Districts and strategic support for town centres.”
