Tackling climate change this Christmas

Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Cllr Alan Farnell, is calling on people to support a charity which champions climate change from its base in the county and has become this year’s national appeal for The Guardian newspaper.

Rugby-based Practical Action is a charity reaching across the globe in aiding people whose lives have already been hit by the effects of climate change.

The charity joined Warwickshire County Council in the summer of this year in committing to the Warwickshire Climate Change Partnership, and leader of the council Cllr Farnell, is calling on people to back Practical Action’s efforts.

He said: “Climate change is having a profound effect on millions of people around the world, and the charity with its head office in Rugby is doing great things to support people in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“This year Warwickshire County Council committed to reducing our carbon emissions and now the people of Warwickshire have the chance to take part in this Christmas Appeal.

“The fact that The Guardian newspaper has chosen this charity for a national campaign demonstrates the importance with which we should all be taking climate change.”

Practical Action believes that the right idea, no matter how small, can change lives. It creates jobs, improves health and livelihoods and helps people have better lives.
