Warwickshire’s rock super-group, Red Kyte, performed at a special Christmas service at St Mary’s Church for the county council’s directorate for Children, Young People and Families at St Mary’s Church.

The county-wide band has been put together by Warwickshire County Council’s County Music Service to complement existing classical ensembles. The band members performed a rock version of ‘Santa Claus is coming to Town’ and AC/DC’s Back in Black.

Other performances included solos by Charlotte McKay of Aylesford School, Warwick, and Laura Simmons of Myton School in Warwick and the County Youth Chorale, Jane Carter and readings by young people, staff and County Councillors. The service was led by Marion Davis, Strategic Director for Children, Young People and Families, and Linda Wainscot, Diocesan Director of Education.

Marion Davis said: “The Christmas celebration provides an opportunity for members of staff, councillors, colleagues and partners to come together to reflect upon past and future challenges and to celebrate our achievements. We have a wealth of talent in the Children, Young People and Families directorate and we are extremely keen to promote our young musicians.”
