High winds batter Warwickshire
High winds gusting at more than 70mph have battered Warwickshire over the past few days causing damage to property and leaving one person hospitalised.
A number of trees have been blown onto roads and buildings, and incidents have included an injury in North Warwickshire at No Mans Heath when a car ran into a tree which had fallen from private land onto the road, and the closure of a road at Edge Hill after a tree fell in south Warwickshire.
In many cases the condition, and therefore the potential hazard posed by these trees, could have been identified had the tree owners carried out a visual assessment.
With the likelihood of further winter and spring gales imminent, landowners that have trees on their boundaries that are adjacent to roads or buildings are urged to inspect their condition.
This is increasingly important after a gale or when the ground is waterlogged.
