“Restoration” triumph, rare Victorian photographs and memories of “Working Lives”
The second edition of Warwickshire Reports, the online newsletter with features as diverse as Wellesbourne’s recent triumph in the BBC’s “Restoration” competition, a newly acquired collection of Victorian photographs for the county and an oral history project on working life in Nuneaton and Bedworth, is now available online.
Warwickshire Reports is Warwickshire County Council’s local studies newsletter, and it highlights the history, culture and rich archaeological tradition of the area.
This edition has a feature explaining to online visitors how Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne went from a thriving wheelwright’s and blacksmith’s yard to a neglected site, and how forward thinking and team work has helped to win the BBC’s “Restoration” final.
Another feature shows how the working lives of the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth are being recorded for their stories to be shared with everyone in an exciting oral history project. It explains how you can get involved if you have memories to share.
The County Record Office has recently acquired a unique collection of stereoscopic images and lantern slides created in the 19th century. Warwickshire Reports includes information on how you can see material from this collection whilst forthcoming evens are shown in the What’s On feature.
Warwickshire Reports is a bi-annual publication and is available online by following the link http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/local studies or in hard copy from local libraries and the County Record Office and Museum
Lesley Kirkwood, Warwickshire Local Studies Librarian, said: "With Warwickshire Reports available on-line as well as in hard copy we are really pleased that we are now able to reach a wider audience with information and news relating to the county’s local history."
