High winds caused havoc across Warwickshire

Warwickshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service received over 100 calls yesterday as winds reached up to 70 miles per hour.

Most of the calls received related to fallen trees, broken cables, roof tiles coming off houses and road traffic collisions caused by fallen branches or trees. Firefighters and the control centre worked through the day and night to ensure that structures were made safe and people’s lives were not at risk.

County Fire Officer, William Brown said:
“I would like to commend all the crews and control staff who worked tirelessly throughout the day responding to a range of emergency calls and dealing with a vast range of incidents in such adverse weather conditions.”

·Chimney collapsed onto roof: Rupert Brooke Road, Rugby: Call out: 2:06pm
·Tree fallen on telegraph poles. Electrical wires loose: Brook Street, Wolston: Call out – 2:01
·Tree Fallen, taken away side of house: Old Hinkley Road, Nuneaton: Call out - 1:11pm
·Steele gate blowing in wind, it has hit a car: Regent Street, Nuneaton: Call out - 12:48pm
·Unsafe roof: Halloughton Grange, Nether Whitacre: Call out - 1:28pm
·Telegraph Pole across the road: Gilson Drive, Coleshill: Call out - 2:34pm
·Unsafe Structure: Coventry Road, Coleshill: Call out - 1:31pm
·Chimney collapsed on house: Rose Road, Coleshill: 1:54pm
·Unsafe Chimney: Leicester Crescent, Atherstone: Call out - 1.48pm
·Tiles coming from roof: Queensway, Bidford: Call out – 3:44pm
·Tree blown onto electrical wires: Waterloo Road, Friday Furlong, Bidford: Call out – 11:17am
·Tree fallen onto house: Saint Martins Road, Finham: Call out – 154pm
·Green House in the road: Dalehouse Lane, Kenilworth: Call out – 2:48pm
·Slates falling from roof: Cornwall place, Leamington spa: Call out – 1:36pm
·Roof tiles hanging from the guttering, Coten End, Warwick: Call out – 7:05pm

In total fire control received over 245 calls on the 18 January 2007. Over 100 of these were weather related incidents.
