Warwickshire is responding to Commission Report
Warwickshire County Council is one step ahead in responding to the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) ‘State of Social Care Report’ which was published earlier this month. The new PHILLIS (Promoting Health and Independence through Low Level Integrated Support) will be formally launched in February.
The report says, “Local authorities need to put a greater emphasis on preventive services - helping people with lower needs to avoid admission to hospital or residential care."
PHILLIS aims to support independent living for people over fifty living in the county, and who are not eligible for statutory support. The service will assess what sort of support is needed for an older person and then, working with partners, will identify the services to best help them.
This new preventative service is aimed at older people who may be finding it difficult to maintain their home or perhaps would like to get out more, socialise or learn a new skill.
So whether it is help with shopping, getting out and about, home repairs, finding social or learning opportunities, claiming benefits, or keeping fit, PHILLIS is here to help!
Graeme Betts, Strategic Director of Adult Health and Community Services, said
“Research shows that providing help and support for older people as soon as they begin to struggle with some aspects of daily living, can help them live safely and confidently in their own homes. Warwickshire County Council is pleased to be able to offer this type of preventative support to people living in Warwickshire.”
Once an older person has had help from PHILLIS, the Service will keep in contact with them on a regular basis, to ensure that they continue to receive appropriate support as and when personal circumstances may change.
The PHILLIS Service is free, but for some community based services there may be a charge.
Access to the PHILLIS Service is open to anyone over the age of 50 years living in Warwickshire and individuals, their family, friends or support staff can refer to the service simply by telephoning 01926 731144.
