Warwickshire’s young players celebrate day of brass

Young musicians from Warwickshire helped make up one of the biggest brass bands of all when they attended a special day of brass.

Brass specialists from the County Music Service accompanied 140 young players from around Warwickshire when they took part in the ‘Day of Brass’ event at King Henry VIII School, Coventry.

Jeremy Dibb, County Music Service manager for the east of the county, said: “Britain has a great tradition of brass bands. The day was a marvellous and unique musical opportunity for young brass players from Warwickshire to join their counterparts from Coventry.”

The weekend, which was intended to encourage more young people to take up and enjoy brass instruments, was organised jointly by Warwickshire County Music Service, Coventry Music Service and Coventry Independent Schools.

Brass players aged from 7-18 received special tuition and formed a number of ensembles over the day. Their work culminated in a big brass band performance involving two hundred young musicians from Warwickshire and Coventry.
