Works to tackle flooding starting soon
A south Warwickshire lane is to be closed from Monday of next week to allow works to get underway on tackling flooding.
Monday will see Snitterfield Lane closed to allow for the demolition and re-construction of a culvert near to Luscombe Farm. The works are expected to take nine weeks to complete.
The existing culvert has been a site of flooding in recent years and is to be demolished and replaced with a larger more modern design to cope with the floods that are more common as the climate becomes wetter.
Recently the bridge has required several blockages to be removed to relieve floods. That should be avoided with a larger more modern structure.
The design combines a modern concrete deck with traditional brickwork supports and parapets to provide a simple solution to the need for a higher flow capacity.
For safety, efficiency and economy Snitterfield Lane will be closed to motor vehicles for the duration of the works.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “This is another example of an inadequate structure being replaced by Warwickshire County Council with a modern design that will serve future generations.”
The works have been contracted by Warwickshire County Council to Currall, Lewis and Martin who are well known throughout the West Midlands for the efficiency and quality of their construction works.
