Councillors and staff are real ‘smoothies’, raising £££s for charity

It was a ‘smooth’ operation at Warwick’s Shire Hall last week, when fun-loving staff and councillors from Warwickshire County Council got on their bike – and helped raise nearly £100 for charity!

Staff were encouraged to jump on the ‘Blenda Venda’, a pedal-powered smoothie-making machine, and make a small donation to charity in return for a fresh fruit drink.

Even county councillors got in on the action, including Councillor Martin Heatley, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, and Councillor Izzi Seccombe, Portfolio Holder for Children, Families and Young People.

It was all part of National Stress Down Day, an event run by the Samaritans to raise awareness of the effects of stress in the workplace and raise as much money as possible for the charity’s 24-hour emotional support service.

Cllr Martin Heatley, said: "We’re always talking about the healthy benefits of cycling, so what could be better than combining cycling and smoothie making. I was delighted to see this event so well supported with almost £100 raised for the Samaritans on the day."
