Passenger power changes bus route
Feedback from passengers has resulted in Warwickshire County Council deciding to change the route of the County Links X20 bus service in Stratford.
The county council provides financial support for the service operated by Stratford Blue, which is now part of the Stagecoach group.
Currently the X20 starts in Bridge Street and picks up at Wood Street. It then has to travel out of town on the Alcester Road before turning at the Morrisons island and heading back to the traffic lights where it turns right into Arden Street. This is because there is no right turn into Arden Street from Greenhill Street.
Following discussions with the operator, it has been decided that starting on Monday 19th February 2007 to use the current dropping off stops in Wood Street and Bridge Street as pick up points and for the bus to exit the town via Guild Street and Birmingham Road. This should considerably help the bus journey within the town and assist the service in maintaining its scheduled timetable.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “Having buses running on time is very important to passengers and I’m delighted we have been able to act on their feedback.
“We feel these alterations to both the boarding arrangements in the town centre and its route out of town will certainly help. The X20 has been a fine example of partnership working between the operator and ourselves. It’s changed in the last few years from what was an ailing route into one which is now well used.”
