A chance to shape major Kenilworth development

People power is to help shape the future of traffic flow ahead of works starting on the Waitrose development in Kenilworth.

Three options on how the traffic can be managed around the development are being proposed, and residents are being offered the chance to express their preferences.

In mid 2006 Warwick District Council granted planning permission to Colbalt Estates Ltd to redevelop Talisman Square in Kenilworth.

The plans include a Waitrose supermarket, smaller shops and 12 flats. Work on this project is due to start later this year and shops are due to open around Easter of next year.

The new development will increase the flow of cars and pedestrians in the roads around Talisman Square, and any traffic problems caused must be resolved by improvements to the highway.

Three different options have been developed by Warwickshire County Council in conjunction with Kenilworth organisations. Each of these three options are designed to manage and reduce the impact of increased traffic levels.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio holder for Economic Development, said: “This development has been talked about for some time in Kenilworth, and we want to make sure people have every chance to have their input on which of the three options they prefer.

“I hope as many people as possible can spare the time to visit the exhibition.”

This will be held in Unit 3, Talisman Square (former Astral electricals, next to Boots) and will be on display from Monday, 12th February - 2nd March 2007.

Representatives from Warwickshire County Council and Arup will staff the exhibition on Thursday, 15th February, from 10am until 7pm and Saturday, 24th February, from 10am until 4pm.

Additional information and an electronic version of the questionnaire will be available on http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/kenilworthtraffic throughout the consultation period, by emailing kenilworth@warwickshire.gov.uk or calling 01926 735684.
