Schools partnership wins award
A unique partnership of Warwick schools is the West Midlands winner of more than £150,000 in funding in the latest round of an Independent/State Schools Partnerships grant scheme.
Schools Minister Andrew Adonis yesterday announced that the application submitted to the Dfes by Warwickshire Education Business Partnership on behalf of Warwick Schools is one of only 18 projects approved for the whole of England and the only one in the West Midlands.
Over the next two years the award of over £150k will be used by Warwick schools to improve teaching and take up in Maths, Science and ICT at GCSE level and to widen choices at A level for learners in Warwick schools in minority subjects such as applied ICT, Latin, Greek and Further Maths.
Primary schools will also benefit through sharing facilities and expertise, especially in maths and science.
David Williams, Acting Director of Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, said: “Winning this is one of two pieces of good news we have received recently. The Warwick award is a tremendous achievement, which will bring benefit to all the partner schools for the next two years.
“The second piece of good news is that the Dfes has agreed to extend funding of a similar project in Rugby. Surely an endorsement of the excellent partnership working between schools in Warwickshire.”
Bryan Campbell, Chair of Warwickshire Education Business Partnership said: “The focus on Maths, Science and ICT is one that businesses are specially keen on developing and I am sure that it was key to winning the bid. Congratulations to all concerned; the EBP is delighted to be associated with the project and we look forward to managing it on behalf of our Warwick schools.”
The schools involved are, Aylesford, Kings High, Myton, Warwick,
All Saints, Coten End, Newburgh Primary, St Mary’s, Warwick Junior, Warwick Prep, Westgate, and Woodloes Junior Schools.
Warwickshire Education Business Partnership is part-funded and managed by Warwickshire County Council.
